Residual Waste Treatment Facility, Essex

Project:Essex Waste Treatment Facility
Client:Essex County Council
Contractor:Balfour Beatty
Package Value:£500,000
Year:2014

Construction of a Mechanical Biological Treatment facility for Essex County Council and Southend Borough Council in Basildon. Pyramid were on site for 6 months in 2014, having been awarded the design, management and construction of the blockwork package. The package was delivered on time and defect free, working with one of our key clients, Balfour Beatty.

In addition to the MBT facility, a Visitor Centre has been constructed to provide an information centre, community meeting room, research laboratory, classrooms and an exhibition space with viewing galleries for people to see the process in operation. The Visitor Centre will accept visits from local schools and will help to teach children about the importance of treating recycling waste whilst promoting Essex County Council’s practices to achieve their targets.

This large project utilised the Wi System to support the large blockwork walls which had extremely high loading requirements within the generator areas to withstand potential blasts.
